Is on the American Heros Channel right now (yeah, I’d never heard of it either). I usually hate watching TV on Halloween, because horror and zombie movies don’t interest me at all. I can’t watch this movie too many times. I loved it when I was a kid and didn’t understand a damn thing (my parents had no problem letting us kids watch rated R movies), and I still love it.

Forever one of my favorites

THfRO has always been one of those movies that immediately puts an end to my channel surfing. Doesn’t matter how far into the movie it is.

It’s pretty high on my Shawshank Scale of Flipability.

If I find it on I have to watch it.

Same here. Even if it’s on a channel that has commercials, I’m in.

I don’t always stop on Shawshank because it’s on so frequently ... But I often do. Doesn’t matter where it is in the movie either. I saw it from the beginning last week, that’s rare.

I love it - in my top 10 even before I found out the SigOther’s boss was involved in its production. Also The Shining, Dr. Strangelove, Rush, Tinker Tailor, Casino Royale, a few others.

The Scale doesn’t require a stop every time. Especially during Football Season.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen it from the start.

Yesh.

Connery shouldn’t work in that role, but he’s so utterly perfect.

I also happen to like Sum of All Fears quite a bit as well. The score for that film is wonderful. I think Liev Schreiber is cast perfectly, and ex-Bennifleck isn’t half bad either.

The newest one is also okay, but Chris Pine only plays one person since he’s been in Star Trek.

And I should have said - Jaws. If it’s on and it’s before Hooper arrives, I have to watch the entire movie. Again.

Yeah, Connery’s accent is all wrong ... Doesn’t matter.

I haven’t seen the newest one. Do you remember what it’s called? I don't.

Seriously I’m pretty sure I’ve turned to channel 173 (AHC where I am) and found some shit like “Bible Secrets: Jesus’ Untold Story” or some other shit that belongs on the History channel, if of course the History channel had anything to do with history.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

I enjoyed it. But Red October will always be my favorite.

I read that book in 5th grade. I’m hindsight, it may have been a little beyond a 5th grader in subject matter, but oh well. I think I turned out alright.

I remember seeing it at the theatre this and if I remember correctly teenage mutant ninja turtles. My hometown is French Canadian, so normally French movies playing, except for Fridays, that was English movie night. They would play 2 movies and it cost under 5 $. I went that night for the ninja turtles, 11 at the time, but now only remember red October.

Ps I checked what else came out that year http://www.imdb.com/search/title?s…

I watched 48 of the first 50. Not all in the theatre some also on vhs.

I still love the part of that movie where Ramius puts Ryan in his place...

“I know this book... Your conclusions were all WRONG, Ryan. Halsey acted stupidly.”

People don’t give kids enough credit. I’m sure you understood it at some basic level, and then as you grew and matured you began to understand the deeper intricacies of it. You certainly didn’t destroy your fragile little mind or anything :)

I distinctly remember watching THfRO on cable on a cold grey weekend afternoon with my dad, when I was 9 or 10 years old. I certainly did not understand everything, but I understood enough that I loved it. Swear words and shooting certainly didn’t break my little mind or make me want to shoot anybody.

That’s an interesting pairing of movies. I remember watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the theater, I was nine. I didn’t see THfRO until it came out on cable.

Two good Sean Connery movies that year - The Hunt for Red October and The Russia House with Michelle Pfeiffer. Three years earler “You wanna know how to get Capone? They pull a knife, you pull pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That’s the Chicago way.”

Despite Connery’s bad hairpiece and worse accent, I still love it too, it is, by now, firmly a classic. One of these days I’ll have to read the book. Like much of Clancy’s earlier work, it’s a slim volume and probably tightly written, unlike his later doorstoppers.

Best part about old Clancy books is you can buy them on Amazon for pennies used:

Awesome books, I’d recommend reading all of the original Clancy’s.
